Win a copy of “Four Kitchens” by Lauren Shockey

I know there are a lot of foodies out there. And judging by the number of people watching Masterchef, we seem to be a nation obsessed with food – and cooking.

So it was great to have the opportunity to interview chef-turned-author Lauren Shockey the other day. She chatted with me on the phone from her base in New York, where she’s currently working as a food critic. And yes, she really does have the wig and glasses to try to disguise herself when sampling restaurants.

After completing a degree at the University of Chicago, Lauren Shockey took up a role in a public relations agency. But after just one year in the “perdition” of the corporate world she quit her job and enrolled in the French Culinary Institute to start her training as a chef.

She went on to take up internship roles in some of the world’s most well-known restaurants, in New York, Paris, Hanoi and Tel Aviv. Her book, Four Kitchens, chronicles her life as a stagiares (chef’s apprentice).

Lauren has also written articles on food for The Village Voice, The New York Times, Slate, and the Atlantic Food Channel.

So for all the foodies out there, we have a copy of her book “Four Kitchens” to give away. All you need to do is tell us what your favourite recipe or foodie experience is and why. Entries close 5pm on Friday 9 September 2011 and you can enter here.
