3 business books that changed my life: Jodie Fox, co-founder of Shoes of Prey

Jodie FoxSo many business books to read, and so little time left in the day when you’re running your own business.

So, in our continuing series “3 Business Books that Changed My Life”, we have asked some of Australia’s top business bloggers and business owners to nominate the books that have made an impact in their life.

In this post we feature Jodie Fox, who is one of three co-founders of Shoes of Prey, a website where customers can turn their fabulous shoe designs into bespoke reality.

Jodie focuses mainly on product research and development, and communication strategies for the business, with her campaigns attracting attention world-wide.

Here are the three business books that changed her life:

Buzzmarketing by Mark Hughes
This book was behind Mike, Michael and my first attempt at something business-wise, and resulted in an incredibly successful guerilla marketing stunt. Author Mark Hughes shares lessons from his experiences, including driving users of Half.com from zero to eight million in three years by making Half.com newsworthy, agitating word of mouth and being 100% dedicated to the cause. It’s a brilliant source of inspiration on how to approach your marketing in non-traditional, fresh, creative ways.

7 habits of highly effective people by Stephen R Covey
This is a personal and professional guide to making the most of everything that’s already at your fingertips. In a small business I’ve found that it’s way to easy to lose sight of the fundamentals, so although this book was professionally really useful, I really loved this for the personal lessons it gave me.

7 Habits of Highly Effective People

The E-myth Revisited by Michael Gerber
This one really helps to strip back perceptions on what it is you think is inherent knowledge and what you may actually need to focus on learning/doing to be a better entrepreneur. It also holds up a mirror that every entrepreneur needs to keep checking in – do you live to work or work to live? For a “taste test” of this book, you can read the first chapter here, but two things to note: the “real lessons” happen in later chapters and it is a book that you’ll want to read more than once.
