Wrapping up: My third year with Let’s Talk Business
It’s been a busy series but the final seminar in the Let’s Talk Business seminar series wrapped up earlier this month. I’m grateful we went out on a high thanks to a wonderful panel of speakers including online retail empresario Ruslan Kogan. I just love startup stories and Ruslan held the audience in the palm of his hand with his frank and honest tales about what he did in the early days of his business in order to succeed. It was great to meet so many interesting and inspiring entrepreneurs during this year’s series. You can read what I gleaned from Ruslan’s talk here.
Voting for: There are few people in the world who I find more inspiring than Kyle Maynard. I first met Kyle about 10 months ago and have never been more impressed by a 25 year old in my entire life. In fact, I’ve been so impressed that I’m featuring Kyle in my upcoming book “Power Stories: The 8 Stories You MUST Tell to Build an Epic Business”. Not only is Kyle an entrepreneur (he runs a successful Crossfit gym in the US) and keynote speaker, in January he climbed Mount Kilimanjaro. This is all the more inspirational as Kyle was born with no arms and no legs.
Kyle makes me want to be a better person. And I do not say that lightly. I would be so grateful if you could vote for Kyle in ESPN’s “Best Male Athlete with a Disability” here.
Going to: Blogopolis in Sydney
If you’re going to Nuffnang’s Blogopolis Conference tomorrow (30 June), let’s connect! Please do come and say HI. I love blogging conferences because it gives me the opportunity catch up in real life with the amazing bloggers who I follow online.
Loving: The feedback from our newest courses: Food Writing and How to Write Your Chick Lit Novel. We recently ran these courses and I’ve been so excited by the response. I’m thrilled that the Sydney Writers’ Centre has been able to introduce new and relevant courses with the best presenters in the country.
Foodies will love our Food Writing course. Not only do you get to write about delicious food you actually get to taste it as well. It’s all part of the course!
Getting hair done by: Fotini Hatzis
What can I say? When you’re on to a good thing, stick to it, When I first had my hair cut by the amazing Fotini Hatzis, I knew I had found the hair expert of my dreams. Fotini is a pro. She works with some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry and I love her skill, passion and sense of humour. So when I was in Melbourne yesterday, I made a point to hang out with Fotini (and our mutual friend, uber-photographer Gina Milicia). Over impromptu champagne and gossip, I got my hair done! If you ever want a hair and makeup artist who is the best in the business, you know where to go.
Launching: My new business!
In case you missed it, you can read about it here.
Cranky at: My cat Rocky. I mean … I adore the little thing. He’s such a gem. But behind that super innocent facade is an incredibly naughty cat just waiting to pounce on his poor unsuspecting brother, little doggie Rambo.
One would think that, with a name like Rambo, my little doggie would be able to stand up for himself. Well, he may be Rambo by name – but it seems like he’s not really Rambo by nature. Lately, Rocky (the cat) appears to take great pleasure in terrorising Rambo (the dog). On the weekend, there was blood. It’s like The Hunger Games have relocated to my apartment. As a result, I’ve taken to bringing Rambo to the office so he can get some respite..
And, ok, since several people have asked … yes, Rocky came into my life the year Rocky 6 the movie was released. Rambo joined the family the year Rambo 4 hit the big screens. Yes, true confession: I am a Stallone fan.
