What a great little gift you have of being able to unlock people like that! They must feel comfortable with you.

It’s a weird thing, Vanessa. I’ve only really noticed it in the past few years – especially when people start crying!

I think it’s beautiful! How liberating for them. Sometimes that admission to the world/ourselves about what we truly desire is something we tend to avoid. Sometimes people don’t know how to tap into it and need someone to help them along. Lucky are the ones that have crossed paths with you!

I’ve been thinking about this a lot – I even wrote about it today! I did end up figuring out (mostly) what I wanted, and then very quickly had two babies. It’s been interesting putting it on hold and sensing it grow and develop. If only everyone had a catalyst like you to springboard them on their right path! I bet the ones who have are very grateful.

Me too! I get the feeling it’s going to be a lot of fun 😉

These are some of the skills of a personal coach – very cool Valerie! Acknowledging what you want is the FIRST step in the change process (which is also why, as you mentioned, not every makes it happen).

It must be so rewarding to do what you do Marija. And I love how you’ve changed directions in life – because the great thing is that we also need to acknowledge that what we want can change over time.

Very powerful words there. What we want does change over time indeed!

I can attest to this as I recall sitting in a DP Con workshop in 2012 run by you and I got all choked up asking a simple question. It was when it really hit home about wanting to write. So here’s another who thanks you for making them cry x

Oh wow. Thanks for sharing that.

Loved this post. What a gift to be that present with people and to be able to tune in like that. A gift for you AND for them. Precious.

It sounds like you have the gift of making others feel comfortable unburdening themselves AND that you can hone in on exactly what someone’s trying to say. Listening and engaging with others is about far more than what they say!

Hi Valerie – that gift of yours sounds like something I really need applied to me! When I try to work through various processes to work out what is it that I want, I find the whole process extremely challenging. I have been skirting around this for a couple of years now as a result. Do you have any tips – or do you run sessions, or recommend anyone who does?

  8. Robinoz

I have a friend who does some counselling within her profession (a medical stream) although she isn’t a counsellor. Every time we get to talk, I feel she is trying to “analyse” me … she can’t seem to have a simple, straightforward conversation, but always tries to dig deeper with “and how did that make you feel” or “what did you think about that.” I find it off-putting. But I’m sure your approach Valerie is a gentler more subtle, natural version.

I hope so Robin. Although I have to say that I don’t try to do it. It just seems to happen!

A great reminder that we all need to acknowledge and make out dreams happen. Great post.
