I’m grateful to Business Chicks for featuring me in their special feature ‘This is what I want you to know’ in a recent issue of Latte magazine.
It featured advice from a handful of women and I was humbled to be included. In case you didn’t get a copy, here’s what I mentioned in the article:
Indulge your creative curiosity. Give in to it and allow yourself the time to explore your passions. Allow yourself to go down pathways that don’t necessarily seem logical to your current career trajectory because there is magic in going down rabbit holes.
It might be counter-intuitive to do this because we’re told to focus and make decisions based on what will take us closer to our goals. But what if we haven’t yet discovered the goals that will make our heart truly sing?
That’s why we need to pay attention to our creative curiosity. Because that’s actually a calling from our soul.
I spent decades as a writer and built a successful career with words. I still love words but recently gave in to my creative curiosity for creating artwork. Casual ‘paint and sip’ classes with friends led to a formal art course. This led to exhibitions and corporate commissions. Earlier this year, my five-metre public art installation was unveiled on Sydney Harbour, flanked by the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House.
If you told me, a year ago, that this was going to be my reality, I wouldn’t have believed you. And it all happened because I allowed myself to give in to my creative curiosity. I hope you do too. Because that’s when you truly discover what’s truly in your heart.
